FS RTU Racing Team
We are a Formula Student team representing Riga Technical University and Latvia on the international stage. Our team operates like a small racing team, bringing together around 50 students who design, manufacture, and test an open-wheel race car, as well as secure funding, materials, and ensure the visibility of the project.
Each year, we build a new car according to Formula Student regulations. This process takes us about 9 months, followed by competition over the summer. Compared to Formula One, the rules are more open, giving student teams the freedom to innovate, experiment, and develop unique engineering solutions.
OUR FIRST CAR
Our first Formula Student car, MK1, marked the beginning of Latvia’s journey in international Formula Student competitions. For us, 2024 was about proving that Latvia could enter Formula Student and compete internationally. The season gave the team valuable experience in technical inspection, competition procedures, and the intensity of racing against established European teams. At FS Poland 2024, FS RTU was awarded Best Rookie Team — a major milestone for a first-year team entering the European Formula Student scene.
OUR 2025 CAR
Our second car, MK2, represented a major step forward in the team’s technical development. Powered by a Yamaha MT-07 engine and featuring a rear wing, MK2 was designed to build on everything we learned from our first year of competition.
The 2025 season was our second year competing and our first opportunity to show how quickly the team could improve after gaining real international experience.
FS AUSTRIA 2025
In July 2025, we competed at FS Austria, held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. It is considered one of the most prestigious Formula Student competitions in Europe.
The team passed inspection in time for Endurance, the final and most demanding dynamic event. Unfortunately, a few laps into the run, the car was forced to retire, resulting in a DNF. Even so, the event became an important test of the team’s resilience, preparation, and ability to compete at the highest level.
FS POLAND 2025 — HISTORY MADE
At FS Poland 2025 became a historic moment for the team. FS RTU achieved its first podium finishes: second place in Business Plan Presentation and third place in Acceleration. These were not only the first podiums for our team, but also the first Formula Student podium finishes in Latvian history.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
Today, FS RTU continues to grow as a team and as the foundation of the Formula Student community in Latvia. With two competition seasons completed, two cars built, and Latvia’s first Formula Student podiums achieved, we are now developing our next car and preparing for the challenges ahead.
Every season brings new lessons, new engineering challenges, and new opportunities to prove what Latvian students can achieve on the international stage.
